Dear Citizens,
I have the great honor of being your Delegate in the Maryland
General Assembly. I am proud to work for you. I have done my best to
use my leadership position and my experience to get positive results
for our counties, our region, our state and nation.
I believe we have much unfinished work in bringing needed changes
and reform to our great state. I am asking for your support to
continue the fight against the entrenched power monopoly in the
Maryland legislature that provides disproportionate attention to the
three most populous jurisdictions of the state at the expense of
smaller and more rural regions like ours in Southern Maryland.
With your support, I will continue to fight expansive government
while still providing the leadership to get results in areas such as
education, transportation, and the environment. In just the last
four years Maryland’s state government annual operating budget has
increased from about $28 billion to over $32 billion. This
unsustainable growth in spending has occurred in the midst of a
terrible recession.
I will continue to fight to force government to reduce spending so
that our children and grandchildren will not be saddled with paying
off today’s bill in the future. I will continue to resist efforts
by Governor Martin O’Malley, Speaker Mike Busch and President Mike
Miller to pass large general tax increases. I want to continue to be
the change agent for you in state government and hope I can count on
your vote on November 2nd.
With warm regards,
Delegate Tony O’Donnell
